EFFECTS OF GAMMA RAY ON SOME MOLECULAR CHARACTERISTICS OF IN VITRO REGENERATED GERBERA JAMESONII BOLUS

摘要
Gamma radiation (Co-60) of 20 and 15 Gy at 6.5 Gy/min applied on callus with shoot primordia, single shoot and multiple shoots of Gerbera jamesonii Bolus revealed that 15 Gy was more effective in the induction, of mutation. Survival percentage after irradiation was highest in cultures with multiple shoots. Isozyme studies showed the presence Of different banding profiles following polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The resulted bands have been found to be different in respect of their intensity, number and pattern. Such isozyme studies can be reliably used as markers in characterizing induced variation.
