A methodology for quantitative determination of minor components in minerals based on FT-Raman spectroscopy - The case of calcite in dolomitic marble

A methodology based on FT-Raman spectroscopy and standard addition was developed for the analysis of minerals and was applied successfully for the quantitative determination of calcite in Ekeberg marble. The areas of the overlapping v, vibration modes of the dolomitic (1098 cm(-1)) and calcitic (1086 cm(-1)) carbonate groups were used, after deconvolution, for constructing a calibration curve. Application of the calibration curve on Raman spectra obtained from an Ekeberg sample yielded the calcite content which was found to be 5.7% (w/w). (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
