Injury prevention and other international public health initiatives

Populations around the world, especially those in the poorer countries, are suffering from an increasing burden of injury related deaths and disabilities. Emergency health care systems will be increasingly taxed to cope with this burden. Emergency medicine practitioners in the United States and other countries have been actively involved not only in strengthening trauma care but also in advocating and promoting prevention of injuries. This will be an important role of emergency medicine practitioners on a global basis for the foreseeable future.
