Resonance, Democracy, and Common Good

In the article, the author presents the application of Hartmut Rosa's resonance theory to the question of democracy, its nature and crisis. The author shows that resonance is an integral part of true democracy, which should not be confused with the mere assertion of interests. The regulative idea of true democracy is the common good. Democracy is the enforcement and realization of the common good, and this can only be achieved through resonance. The origin of the current crisis of democracy is the absence of resonance or alienation as the other of resonance. The alienation exists not only between citizens and politics, but also between citizens themselves and groups of citizens. The solution for democracy is not for this or that party or political option to take power and continue with the bare politics of power and alienation, but to overcome alienation and establish a politics of resonance. The position of the politics of resonance does not deny the importance of power, but it is aware that the bare assertion of power and interests is not enough for democracy. In the paper, the author presents an analysis of the common good and democracy with the help of the concept of resonance, which supports the above claims. On this basis, he outlines systemic measures for the protection and revitalization of democracy.
