摘要
Escherichia coli producers of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) have become a major problem in various hospitals worldwide, causing outbreaks as well as sporadic infections, being especially relevant those related to enzymes of the CTX-M-class. 1 In hospital settings, intestinal carriage is an important reservoir of these resistant microorganisms and gut colonization of patients is associated with a high risk for developing self-and cross-infections due to ESBL-producers, especially in long-term care units
