摘要
Through a close analysis of The Love Song off. Alfred Prufrock, this essay discloses a maze formation, framed by layers of repetitive words, pharases, sentences or gramatic structures, which are also involved in the of production textual meaning. Besides, the essay also discusses the various aesthetic functions of repetition. The tention between the form and content creates the effect of irony. In the scenary description, repetition offers a useful strategy to vividful represent the decadence of the modem city. Meanwhile, repletion also creates a beautiful. rhythm. Finally, the essay figures out the structural function of repetition. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock keeps some elements of narrative, but the characterization of the hero is over simplified, and the story narration is out of logic order. Besides, the conflicts of the story disappear. The essay suggests that the functions of repetition are vastly extended in the poem, making up for the deficiency of the structure.
