Changes in papermaking properties in two series of biosemichemical straw pulp treated with enzyme-mediator systems were evaluated. The enzymatic systems studied included (i) manganese peroxidase (MnP, EC 1.11.1.13) in combination with Tween 80 or H2O2-generating couple glucose oxidase (GO, beta-D-Glucose:oxygen l-oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.3.4)-glucose, and (ii) laccase (benzenediol:oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.10.3.2) in combination with 1-hydroxybenzotriazol (HBT). Results showed that MnP/Tween 80 system improved some papermaking properties, whereas GO-glucose coulpe caused removal of aromatic lignin structures as detected by the infrared spectroscopy.
