Functions of the Piano as an Orchestra Instrument - A pianistic-functional perspective on Villa-Lobos' Uirapuru

this article, the piano is presented from the point of view of its use as an integral instrument of the orchestra and, from the perspective of its pianistic-functional qualities, substantiated the use of this instrument by composers. After a short historical path of piano as orchestral instrument, the functions of using the piano in this way, even as possible effects planned by composers. The research is exploratory and the presentation of excerpts from Villa-Lobos's Uirapuru, through a pianistic-functional analysis of the orchestral score, illustrates the sound qualities that emerge from the functional use of the piano instrument in the orchestra.
