Biosecurity: Educational programs

Multiple educational programs dealing with biosecurity were developed during and following the exotic Newcastle disease outbreak of 2002 and 2003 in California. Extension clientele involved with game fowl, fairs and expositions, poultry clubs, and poultry youth were all in need of biosecurity training. Collaborative efforts between the University of California Cooperative Extension and the California Department of Food and Agriculture resulted in the development of educational programs that addressed issues raised during the outbreak and continue to help clientele protect their birds from emerging diseases.
