摘要
Corrosion behavior of carbon steel in carbon dioxide (CO2)-loaded activated methyl diethanol amine (a-MDEA) solution was investigated using Tafel polarization and alternating current (AC) impedance techniques. Results indicated that a passive iron carbonate (FeCO3) film is formed after a critical current density in all cases. A projection was observed on the passive region of Tafel (E-Log i) plots in 10 wt% solution at noble potential and at higher temperatures. X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed the projection is produced due to the iron oxide-hydroxide (alpha-FeO center dot OH) formation in the passive film of FeCO3. The corrosion rate of carbon steel increased by increasing the a-MDEA concentration, but a more stable passive film could be formed. At the projection potential, dissolution is under control of semi-infinite diffusion of released ions, and the mechanism does not change by increasing the concentration and temperature.
