Modeling Flower Bud Elongation in Hybrid Lily 'Menorca' in Response to Gibberellin

Functions were developed to predict the response of hybrid lily 'Menorca' flower bud elongation to gibberellin concentrations and dates of hormone application. Plants were sprayed with concentrations of GA(4+7) (0, 20, 200 and 2000 mu g/plant as foliar spray) at visible bud stage, 10 or 20 days later, respectively. An exponential model fit the data with an R-2 of approximate to 0.9. Bud length can be used by lily grower to predict the concentration of gibberellin required to achieve a target flowering date or demand of market. This model provides a tool for commercial monitoring of the development of this crop and the distribution of harvest dates. A polynomial model fit the data with an R-2 of 0.715 as multivariable regression. This model predicts the data quite well to compute mathematically flowering date.
