摘要
In the introduction, the article sums up the circumstances which led fochen Hoock to contribute to a new History of Rouen. It aims at defining the specificity of his own approach compared to that developed by Jean-Pierre Bardet in the previous History of Rouen. The core of the article, divided into two parts, is dedicated to the main contribution of the author. In the first half of the seventeenth century Rouen, a big merchant city, was undergoing tensions notably due to the European wars. The 1650-1700 period was marked by economic difficulties mostly linked to the escalation of religious tensions before colonial and international trade could support industrial expansion in the 1680-1740 period. In conclusion, Jochen Hoock's approach seems essential as regards the connections between trade and industry and also between different levels of analysis from the local to the international and global ones.
