Yield and quality of sesame (Sesamum indicum) as influenced by nitrogen and phosphorus in light-textured Inceptisols

摘要
A field experiment was conducted during rainy (kharif) season of 1994 and 1995 to study the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus on growth, yield and quality of 'Gujrat 1' sesame (Sesamum indicum L.). The yield attributes and seed yield of sesame were significantly higher with the application of different levels of nitrogen and phosphorus than the control. Application of 45 kg and 30 kg of N and P2O5/ha significantly increased the yield attributes, yield and quality than 30 and 20 kg N and P2O5/ha respectively. Further increase in the dose of N and P2O5, i.e. 60 and 40 kg/ha, did not bring significant increase compared with lower doses. Nitrogen and phosphorus uptake, protein and oil yields were increased significantly with the application of 45 kg N and 30 kg P2O5/ha over 30 kg N and 20 kg P2O5/ha respectively. Higher doses of N and P2O5 did not influence the N and P uptake and quality of sesame significantly during both the years.
