Rhizopus microsporus var. tuberosus Zheng & G.-q. Chen var. nov, is described. Similarities and dissimilarities between or among the new variety and R. microsporus var. oligosporus (Saito) Schipper & Stalpers or the other varieties of R. microsporus van Tieghem, are discussed.
