THE GREATS OF CZECH POPULAR CULTURE (1900-2000): ROOTS, CHARACTER AND GENRES

This paper presents a survey of the major trends and personalities of Czech popular culture in the 20th century and focuses on the interrelationship of various genres and personalities over the decades. Film, as a popular genre of the 20th century has been included in this survey, only when closely related to the theatre and is not an independent part of this study. In today's internet climate, vast information on this topic is freely accessible, and a wide variety of all of the presented personalities can be found on such platforms as youtube.com, however to date, a synthesizing systematic analysis comparing these individual artists, genres and styles has not yet been attempted. This paper seeks to fill this gap.
