摘要
Even though the ingestion of a foreign body (FB) is a classic childhood accident, severe complications rarely occur. A tracheo-oesophageal fistula is one such rare complication, and commonly occurs after the ingestion of a battery. There have been no previously described cases of a coin causing this type of fistula. We are reporting on the case of a tracheo-oesophageal fistula in a 12-year-old child, following the impact of a coin in the oesophageal wall. Atypical signs resulted in a delayed diagnosis of the ingestion of a FB and of this type of complication. Through this observation and a review of the literature, we emphasise the diagnosis characteristics and the treatment of this often serious type of complication.
