摘要
Staphylococcus aureus is the leading caues of skin and systemic infections. resistance to penicillin and methicillin has increased widely all over the world. Hence this study is done to determine the prevalence and antibiotic sensitivity of the Staphylococcus aureus. Samples from different department of a teritary care centre was processed by standard method during the period from October 2020 to Decemeber 2020. Disc diffusion was done for the S.aureus isolates to determine the susceptibility rates. High rate of resistance to penicillin (86.1%), Erythromycin (55.5%), Cotrimoxazole (44.4%), Clindamycin and ciprofloxacin (38.8%) was observed in these isolates. Vancomycin (11.4%) , Rifampicin and chloramphenicol (8.3%), Linezolid (5.5%), Tetracycline (16.6%) . All the urine isolates were sensitive to nitrofurantoin. Eight (22.2%) were found to be methicillin resistant S.aureus by using cefoxitin disc diffusion method. Hence constant vigilance and strict infection control practice can control the emergence of MRSA isolates.
