Brownian dynamics simulation of colloidal suspensions confined between two parallel walls

The structure and dynamics of colloidal particles confined between two parallel walls is studied using Brownian dynamics simulation. The particle-particle interaction is modelled as a screened Coulomb potential and the particle-wall interaction is assumed to follow a simple exponential law. Static and dynamic observables are defined and computed for layers parallel to the walls. The numerical values are comparable qualitatively to results from microscopy experiments. It is found that the influence of the wall leads to a higher ordering of the suspension near to it and to an anisotropic diffusion. The corresponding mean-square displacement is described well by the Cichocki-Felderhof model.
