The Onomastique: From Synchrony to Diachrony

The Onomastic research is of great importance for the knowledge of historical and cultural aspects of a people, as it allows the identification of linguistic facts, ideologies and beliefs present in the denominational act and, later, in its permanence or not in a community. Based on the premise that it is a research that contributes to the preservation of a society's memory, constituting identity marks, it is proposed to present the studies that fall within this area, developed within the scope of the Graduate Program in Linguistic Studies at the Faculty of Letters at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in the first twenty years of the 21st century. Different views stand out, under various research objects about the study of the proper name, observed in synchronic and diachronic perspectives.
