Kraft pulping of "elephant grass"

Elephant grass was studied on its chemical composition, fiber morphology and the possibility of KP pulping in this paper. It was found that the most alkali 16% (as NaOH) with 15% sulfidity and a maxium temperature of 160 degrees C for 30min a pulp of 47% screened yield and 18 Kappa mumber was produced under this cooking condition. The elephant grass kraft pulp was easy to be bleached to a high brightness. The strength of the hand-sheet from bleached elephant kraft pulp was well matched to reed KP.
