Crystallization of ingots of magnesium alloys with ultrasonic treatment of the melt

摘要
Various aspects of the nondendritic crystallization of ingots of magnesium alloys and its effect on the structure and properties of the cast and deformed metal are described. The effect of ultrasonic cavitational treatment of the melt on the liquid metal and the crystallizing metal is also investigated. Cavitational treatment of the metal also initiates the process of degassing, which generally helps lower the concentration of hydrogen in the ingot. The results show that the promise of subjecting melts to ultrasonic treatment (UST) in the production of ingots and semifinished products made of magnesium alloys.
