Pr-Ba and Pr-Sr are the defects responsible for the suppression of superconductivity in PrBa2Cu3O7 and in Pr1.5Ce0.5Sr2Cu2NbO10, respectively, and are difficult to detect with conventional techniques. Even neutron scattering has difficulty detecting Pr-Ba because the scattering lengths of Pr and Pa are so similar. In this paper, we point out how these alkaline-earth-site Pr defects can be readily detected indirectly in fully oxygenated samples, using measurements of the c-axis lengths.
