Effects of rare earth compounds on the combustion of double base propellants

The influence of thirteen different rare earth compounds was studied on the combustion characteristics (i.e. burning rate-pressure relationship, burning catalytic efficiency & plateau or mesa effect) of double base propellants. Some of the rare earth compounds exhibited excellent catalysis with significant plateau or mesa effect in the 12.0-22.0 MPa pressure range. The Infrared transmissivity of the exhaust products of double base propellants with some of rate earth compounds was larger than or similar to that of the double base propellant SQ-2 (35%).
