Analyses of historical "vegan dyes" for carcinogenic azo dyes

Occupational disease 1301 "Mucosal changes, cancer or other neoplasms of the urinary tract caused by aromatic amines" also includes diseases caused by exposure to carcinogenic azo dyes. It is often unclear if vegan dyes used in the past that have been identified in the BK determination process, are azo dyes that can release carcinogenic aromatic amines. Therefore, 19 historical vegan dyes from a dye collection of the Technical University of Dresden were analyzed for releasable carcinogenic aromatic amines by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry after reductive cleavage of the azo bond.
