Digital archives as a knowledge database

In Germany, there are 7,350 kilometers of inland waterways owned by the federal government over which great quantities of goods are transported. The construction, operation and maintenance of this network of waterways and the corresponding installations are the duties of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV). In order to be able to plan and implement the construction measures more efficiently, WSV consistently relies on the digital processing and archiving of the technical data.
