Magnetostriction and field induced transitions in La1-xSrxMnO3 in pulsed magnetic fields

Magnetostriction lambda(parallel to)(H) and field-induced phase transitions were studied in the single crystal of La1-xSrxMnO3 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.175) in the pulsed magnetic fields up to 230 kOe. Anomalies in the lambda(parallel to)(H) curves were revealed at 200 kOe in the LaMnO3, which were identified with the spin-reorientation A(y)F(z)-->A(z)F(y) in the magnetic field H parallel to b axis. A complicated magnetostriction behavior was observed in La0.875Sr0.175MnO3, related to the field-induced transition between orthorhombic and rhombohedral crystal structures.
