Structural, transport and magnetic properties of Ru1-xMxSr2GdCu2O8 (M=Ti and Rh for 0≤x≤0.2)

We report on structural, electrical and magnetic properties of Ru1-xMxSr2GdCu2O8, with M = Ti and Rh for 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.2. The polycrystalline samples were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. There are no significant structural changes on partially substituting Ru by Ti or Rh within the studied level of doping. Both ferromagnetic (FM) and superconducting (SC) transition temperatures are reduced upon increasing doping concentration. In the Ti-doped compounds, the corresponding SC and FM transition temperatures decrease significantly faster than in Rh-doped samples. The superconductivity becomes fully suppressed at x = 0.1 for Ti and x = 0.2 for Rh, respectively. The presented results are compared with published work on different substitutional defects and a generalized phase diagram is established. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
