Popular necessity of sustainable reduction of heating energy with its expected permanently increasing requirements of heat insulation in the future and frequently noticed hesitance of old building owners to energetic renovation led to develop the large-sized heat-insulating elements ("GEDT"). In the beginning still based at the use of conventinsulation materials GEDT now was developed for the use of Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIP) too. These "GEDT"-VIP elements combine VIP caused advantages like extreme heat protection while little thickness at the same time with well-known former advantages of GEDT-technology like: weather independent factory production at a typically constant high quality level of prefabrication, short applicating time and low noise and dirt while facade renovating. After a short description of the history of, GEDT" the results of the research project for development of the, "GEDT"-VIP technology are described, a parameter study of the heat insulating properties are presented and experiences of the first practical application of VIP based "GEDT" at three residential buildings facades at Hofheim (near Frankfurt/Main) is represented. In the final chapter 8 "predictions-perspectives-forward look" proposals for further efficiency possibilities (won through experience from this first "GEDT" -VIP-Project) are made - favoring nevertheless (essentially regarding costs) smaller elements manageable while application by one manpower Such smaller elements using a VIP insulation layer are also thought being completely prefabricated. These smaller insulating elements lead to lower production costs, therefore - relating to this chapter - a lower cost limit for VIP insulation based renovation of outer walls can be estimated. Mentioning today's expensiveness of VIP insulation compared with conventional insulation in the future the significance of VIPs low-thickness (compared conventional insulation) will increase disproportionate high to increasing requirements to heat-insulation (lower heat transfer coefficient - "U") of the walls, consequently production costs of VIP-insulation often may getting only a secondary criterion choosing an insulation material.
