Modelling the effects of reinforcement distribution on the elastic properties of composite materials

摘要
A model to account for the reinforcement distribution in composite materials is developed. The method calculates the local reinforcement volume fraction for a given region of the composite so that the local elastic properties of the material can be estimated. The global elastic properties of the composite are determined by finite-element simulations with spatially varying local elastic properties. The method provides estimates of the elastic properties with reduced computational effort. Its advantages and limitations are discussed.
