摘要
Materials with high strength to weight ratios are in vast study due to their applicative need in industrial sectors like automobile and aerospace. Aluminium metal matrix composites (AMC's) do poses these properties when compared to their purest form and in addition, has high wear resistance, corrosion resistance and low cost. In the present work, aluminium alloy (AA5083) composites reinforced with weight 3% and 7% of silicon carbide (SiC) has been investigated for tribological properties (like wear), mechanical properties (like fatigue fracture, ultimate tensile strength, microstructure and hardness), corrosion and micro-structural surface morphology using scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition 5%SiC AMC, 10%SiC AMC and hybrid AMC's with SiC and fly ash are considered for experimental investigation for mechanical properties (like fatigue fracture, ultimate tensile strength, microstructure and hardness) has also been carried. Investigations prove that AMC with 5% SiC reinforcement is the optimal for mechanical and tribological properties and when added fly ash, the percentage of SiC can be still further increased for better results.
