Experiences with paroxetine in the treatment of panic disorder

This case report shows the experiences with different substances used in the treatment of panic disorder. Since psychotherapy alone didn't give satisfying results, the patient underwent a drug therapy with imipramine which led to severe allergic reactions. After withdrawal of imipramine, clomipramine therapy was initialed. This therapy had to be stopped due to impairing side effects. Only the treatment with paroxetine was well tolerated and showed good efficacy in reducing panic attacks, enabling the patient to undergo an effective psychotherapy. The panic disorder thus could be successfully managed.
