(2,2′-Bipyridyl-κ2N,N′)chlorido(DL-threoninato-κ2N,O1)copper(II) monohydrate

In the title compound, [Cu(C4H8NO3)Cl(C10H8N2)]center dot H2O, the Cu-II atom is in a slightly distorted square-pyramidal coordination geometry with the basal plane defined by the two N atoms of the bipyridine ligand and the N and O atoms from the threoninate ion and the apical site occupied by the Cl atom. In the crystal, intermolecular O-H center dot center dot center dot O, N-H center dot center dot center dot O, O-H center dot center dot center dot Cl, C-H center dot center dot center dot O and C-H center dot center dot center dot Cl interactions link the molecules into a three-dimensional network. A pi-pi interaction with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.461 (1) angstrom is also present.
