There has been little reduction in the level of residue failures in milk. Residues pose a human health hazard as they can cause hypersensitivity reactions and there is the possibility of resistance emerging. They are also of great significance to food processors and can affect starter cultures and processing of dairy products. This article is designed to highlight the key points in residue avoidance and ways in which veterinary surgeons can help their dairy clients protect milk quality and minimise the risk of failures occurring.
