Using Load Balancing Mechanism to Reduce Overload in LTE/EPC Defined Network

摘要
The development of the mobile market is not only long term evolution (LTE) but also leads to the next generation by adopting LTE software-defined network (SDN). The advantages of SDN are more flexible, manageable, programmable and less cost. SDN technology separates between the control and data plane so easy to handle the whole network with the application. The target issues on the core networks are traffic routing, core network sharing, and traffic management. Traffic management in the LTE core network is the critical functionality that handles mobility events to deliver reliable and low latency handover. An important topic for low latency is load balancing. This paper proposed a focus to reduce overload in packet core mobile defined network using a load balancing. The experimental results show that the proposed method can handle a heavy load problem on the serving gateway (SGW). After being triggered by load balancing, it can balance the traffic on all of the SGWs which has overload. The balanced SGWs can get high throughput and decrease latency of the network.
