BACKGROUND: The aim of this work was to evaluate the efficacy of using vacuum-assisted closure therapy in neck abscesses at Cho Ray Hospital from September 2017 to August 2019.METHODS: This paper is a prospective study of 42 patients, all treated with VAC therapy in the treatment of neck abscesses at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Cho Ray Hospital.RESULTS: Results demonstrated that, after using VAC therapy, tissue viability of the wound improved (78.6%), and that pains and frequency of dressing changes reduced, consequently shortening hospital stay.CONCLUSIONS: VAC therapy proved to be useful in the treatment of neck abscesses, with the advantages of reducing pain and frequency of dressing changes, and of shortening the hospital stays.
