摘要
When combined with high index contrast slabs in which light can be efficiently guided, microfabricated two-dimensional photonic bandgap mirrors provide us with the geometries needed to confine light into extremely small volumes. We show that it is now possible to define nanocavity lasers and waveguides within InGaAsP and Si for light in the 1.55 mum wavelength range. We have designed, fabricated and characterized optical nanocavities and waveguides which use two-dimensional Photonic Crystal geometry for lateral confinement, and Total Internal Reflection (TIR) for vertical confinement.
