摘要
Background: Infection prevention is a priority in health care, so nursing student competence in clinical skills such as sterile technique is critical to ensure patient safety. Methods: Undergraduate nursing students from a large Midwestern public university enrolled in an intermediate adult medical-surgical nursing course were recruited to participate in this study (n = 68). The study was a two-group posttest randomized trial designed to determine if the use of expert role modeling during prebriefing improved skill performance in an individual simulation experience. A blinded rater used a skills checklist to assess the recorded audio and video of nursing student central line dressing change performance. Results: Participants who viewed the expert role modeling video scored significantly higher on the skills checklist than participants who did not. Conclusion: Use of an expert role modeling video during prebriefing is an effective teaching strategy to improve nursing student skill performance in simulation.
