In this work, we discuss usefulness of time-varying coefficients models in Environmental Epidemiology. In this context, data mostly consist of counts recording events in time or in space-time. Temporal or spatio-temporal dependence is generally treated as nuisance. By making use of two real data examples, we illustrate that time-varying coefficients models can provide a unifying framework to take appropriately account of the dependence structure of the data.
