The increasing failure of antibiotics to combat infections like multi-drug resistant Staphylococcus aureus has renewed interest in a long-forgotten treatment developed over 60 years ago in ex-Soviet Georgia, bacteriophage therapy. Bacteriophages are viruses that are targeted to attack bacterial cells.
