摘要
Extreme pressure mineral lubricant oils are used to dissipate heat generated due to the friction between the rubbing surfaces of gears and reduce wear and increase the life of gears present in the gear boxes. The properties of the gear lubricant oil can be enhanced by dispersing of nano particles in the oil. This, paper addresses on the study of the effect of the dispersion of 025, 0.50 and 0.75 wt% of nano garnet particles in commercially available SN500 grade gear lubricant oil on its viscous behavior. The garnet-lubricant oil nano fluids are prepared by a standard two-step method and the dispersion and thermal stability are analyzed. The dispersion stability of the nanofluids is studied by the gravity driven sedimentation test and the thermal stability is investigated through Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential. Scanning Colorimetric (DSC) techniques. The results show that the prepared nano fluids are highly stable up to 500 degrees C and the viscous behavior is found to be enhanced according the nano particle concentrations. Further, the experimental values of the viscosities are validated with the theoretical values obtained through Einstein, Nguyen and Batchelor's correlations. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V.
