A dual-band millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) cavity-backed slot (CBS) antenna for terminal applications is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna element is composed of two pairs of slots etched on the top of a double layer Rogers RT5880 substrate. The side walls of the whole substrate are surrounded by copper to form a cavity when it is used on the metal frame of a mobile terminal. In order to expand the operating bandwidth, each pair of slots responsible for different frequency bands is excited by the off-center feeding scheme for generating two adjacent resonances. The simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna covers 25.6-27.5GHz in the lower band and 37-40GHz in the higher band, which shows a significant improvement compared to the conventional slot antenna.
