摘要
In this study, AISI 420 grade martensitic stainless steel was subjected to low temperature gas nitriding in a fluidized bed reactor. Penetration of nitrogen into the steel produced a CrN free surface layer (about 15 mu m thick) consisted of iron nitride (epsilon and gamma') and expanded martensite (alpha(N)). Formation of this surface layer accompanied not only by remarkable increase in the surface hardness, but also caused significant improvement in wear and corrosion resistances.
