摘要
Spent nuclear fuel can be stored permanently or retrievably, safely and economically in bored tunnels in high hills, buttes and small mountains. A water intercept tunnel above the storage tunnel keeps the fuel tunnel dry. High efficiency is obtained by using natural or forced draft air cooling via bored chimneys to the overhead surface. Compared to rock-conduction cooling, the air cooling is 10,000X better, thus permitting compact loading.
