Adequate learning environments to support interactive open distance learning

Open distnace learning will have significant impact on raising qualifications only if applied in an effective way. Interaction between learners and the possibility to apply new knowledge in practice are indispensable factors for the success of learning. Learning environments have to provide the necessary learner support. The framework of Telematics Based Tutored Media Instruction provides such support and offers flexibility with regard to different learning situations. Nevertheless, concerted research has to be carried out to gain insight on maintaining learner support in open distance learning for continuing engineering education.
