摘要
The high prevalence, early onset, and short- and long-term negative impact of behavioral health conditions necessitates early identification and treatment of behavioral health symptoms. Barriers to conducting standardized behavioral health screening within pediatric primary care settings include engaging youth and families around screening, limited time and resources available for this activity, and difficulties related to obtaining behavioral health consultation and treatment from specialists when indicated. (13,15) Child and adolescent psychiatrists may assist pediatric primary care practices with engaging youth and families around screening by assisting with identifying rating scales, with specific attention to measures that have good psychometric characteristics across multiple languages, are validated in diverse samples, and available within the public domain. Additionally, the child and adolescent psychiatrist may engage and partner with pediatric primary care professionals to assist with optimizing screening workflows and linkage to specialized behavioral health services, as needed.
