(R)-(+)-7-Oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-exo-2-carboxylic acid (2R), which can be transformed into carbohydrate-substituted monomer 5 appropriate for ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) was prepared by an enzymatic kinetic resolution of 7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-exo-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester [(+/-)1] with the lipase from Candida Rugosa.
