Chemical end-group derivatization of poly(ethyleneglycol)-investigation by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry

摘要：
The hydroxy end-groups of poly(ethyleneglycol) polymers (PEG 1000 and 4000) were derivatized by etherification using methyl, ethyl and triphenylmethyl (trityl) halogenides, During the derivatization the molecular mass distribution of mono- and disubstituted polymers as well as unsubstituted polymers could be obtained by means of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI/MS). For the first time MALDI/MS was used to investigate the kinetics of a chemical reaction involving synthetic polymers.
