The conductivities of polymers like poly(2vinylpyridine) (P-2VP) and its derivative are reported here. 2vinylpyridine (2VP) was polymerised thermally and P-2VP salt was prepared by acidification. The formation of the 2VP salt was confirmed by IR and NMR technique. Conductivities were determined from 30 to 110 degreesC in solid state. It was observed that addition of Cl- ion increases the ionic conductivity of the polymer dramatically. The polymer P-2VP-HCl behaves as a good polyelectrolyte. Molecular mass of P-2VP was calculated and found as 4.8 x 10(5). (C) 2001 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
