The protection of water resources is a demand of modem society, environmental water management, and must take into consideration the always newly concept of sustainable development for all hydro geographic basins and all kind of water resources. Into the Romanian legislation, there is clearly specified that the wastewaters (as the fifth category of water resources) generated into different economical activities must be depolluted before discharging into aquatic environment. Moreover, the most polluted industrial wastewater must be reuse into the technological process so that the concept of "zero liquid effluent" to be put into right direction. This paper will present the newly Romanian environmental regulations and legislation that impose urgently actions for monitoring and self-monitoring of industrial wastewaters discharges, the main studied physicochemical indicators (as COD, TOC, BOD, AOX, suspended solids and other dangerous compounds from the technological process) and toxicological tests. Also, the identification of pollution sources together with the application of industrial wastewater treatment for all effluents before discharging into water resources and facilities for industrial wastewater reuse are also discussed.
