Results of Outpatient Orthopaedic Rehabilitation after Total-Hip- and -Knee-Arthroplasty

Purpose and Methods: For evaluation of outpatient rehabilitation after Total-Hip-and Knee-Arthroplasty a multicenter study was performed to assess quality of life, general health as well as subjective and objective impairment at the beginning (T1), at the end (T2) as well as 3 and 12 months (T3/T4) after rehabilitation: SF 36, EQ-5D and WOMAC. Knee-Society-and Harris-Hip-Score score were documented to T1 and T2. Results: 749 patients were included (367 hips, 382 knees). Average age was 66 years. 49 % were women. Both the results of the clinical scores and health statuses showed significantly positive changes in the rehabilitation course as well as sustainability in the further observation time period. An effect loss with declining results after rehabilitation couldn't be observed. Sociodemographic factors did not have any essential influence on the results. Conclusion: The study illustrates positive effects of outpatient rehabilitation following endo-prosthetic treatment.
